*If you are in my homeroom… please send me an email in the morning everyday no later than 8:15 AM. This is how I will take attendance.
Hi Everyone… As we work through flexible instruction days, I will continue to post assignments on this page. We are also going to use Google Classroom. Our code is: 2j62bna
I am new to Google Classroom so I need your feedback as to what works and any questions, problems or concerns you have. Pay attention to due dates on Google Classroom.
Please check this page everyday, Monday through Friday.
Communication is important. Please email me as needed.
The quiz (photosynthesis, cellular respiration and fermentation) that was scheduled for today will take place tomorrow on Google Classroom.
Spend today reviewing. Use the Pearson BioCoach Activities linked below. Work through all of the concepts and the Self-Quiz.

Homeroom 215… Starting today… I am going to take attendance using Google Classroom. I sent everyone an email with instructions. I appreciate your patience as we figure out the best practices for our flexible instruction days.
Quiz: Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration and Fermentation… This can be found in Google Classroom. It will be posted at 8 AM and must be completed by 11:45 PM today.
Today we begin our study of the cell. We are going to use an interactive website to become familiar with the basic structure of the cell.
The website is: https://www.cellsalive.com/cells/cell_model_js.htm
Study both the plant and animal cell. You can see a diagram of an animal and a plant cell. If you click on an organelle, you can learn about that organelle.
Place the following in your notebook:
- a labeled diagram of a plant cell and an animal cell
- notes about each organelle included in the diagrams on the website
This assignment will most likely take more than one day. Work for the amount of time we would be in class together (about 40 minutes a day is fine). Work on this assignment on Thursday and Friday. Early next week, we will have some kind of an assignment on Google Classroom connected to this activity.
As always.. let me know if you have questions or concerns… let’s try doing this in Google Classroom under “stream”.

It’s Friday so we are going to try something different. I am going to post a question on Google Classroom. It is going to ask you to come up with an analogy that describes how materials move into and out of cells across cell membranes. You can choose any of the methods we studied (diffusion, facilitated diffusion, active transport, etc.). To receive a grade, you must post your analogy or revise an already posted analogy. It can’t be exactly the same as one already posted. However, you can make suggestions to modify someone else’s analogy. If you want, you can include an illustration. I think that you can upload an image on to Google Classroom (I can…). If you can, add it to the response. If you can’t, send it to me in an email. If you share an illustration with me, I plan to share it with the class. Illustrations are optional.
Try this… Place a tea bag in a cup of hot water (or… watch one of the many videos online that show tea bags in hot water). Journal on what you observe (in your notebook). Answer the following questions…How do you know something is passing through the bag? Is there anything that cannot pass through the bag? How does this relate to what is happening in Figure 7-17?
Complete today’s assignments (there are two: A and B) posted in Google Classroom.
Send me your answers to the questions I asked yesterday about the tea bag in hot water. You can type up a response or take a picture of your answers in your notebook.

Today is our last day before Easter break. After you finish today’s assignment, please take a break over the next few days. Do something fun. Don’t forget to take some time to be thankful for our many Blessings. And… Don’t forget to pray.
Before you break, I would ask that you take a few moments and reflect on our progress as we learn Biology in a different way. How’s is it going for you? What is working? What would help make learning easier? If you have any comments or suggestions, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Tomorrow we will start a brief study of vaccines. Today… write down in your notebook… What do you know about vaccines? What have you heard about vaccines? What are some questions you have about vaccines? Send me a picture of your thoughts (email) no later than midnight tonight.
Learn some basic information about vaccines: https://www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/immunizations/pages/How-do-Vaccines-Work.aspx
Spend today and tomorrow watching the following documentary: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/vaccines/
