St. Joseph High School Students Win at Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science
State Meeting

The St. Joseph High School PJAS team is back after attending the 73rd annual PJAS State Meeting at Penn State University on May 20, 21 and 22.  Seventeen students represented St. Joseph High School.  Eleven won First Awards and four received a Second Award.

The Freshman show promise with Frank Borland, Mallory Pavilonis, Ariel Schroeder, Stephanie Shetler and Jill Szwed receiving First Awards and Caitlin Schratz receiving a Second Award.  Sophomore Colleen Fisher received a First Award.  Juniors Lauren Brock, Nathan Catalano, Angelica Matta, Jessica Orlowski and Matthew Orlowski received First Awards.  Dana Golembiewski, Chris Sparacino and Kevin Voller received Second Awards.  Seniors Louis Greco and Karlee Gustafson finished their high school PJAS careers by winning First Awards.

The team arrived at the Special Awards Ceremony wearing their light blue science department shirts.  Besides receiving many compliments about how nice we looked, we received a few Special Awards.  Nathan Catalano was chosen as the delegate to attend the Daniel Fox Youth Scholars Institute at Lebanon Valley College.  Matthew Orlowski was chosen as the alternate.  Karlee Gustafson was honored with a Pennsylvania Science Talent Search Award.

Our two seniors were honored with Perseverance Awards.  Karlee was recognized for six years of participation in PJAS at the state level.  Louis Greco was honored for five years of participation in PJAS at the state level.  Only six students from Region 7 were honored for at least five years of participation in PJAS at the state level.
