American Government and Politics

This is a political science course that focuses on the development of political thought throughout United States History. Students will do an in depth study of the Founding Era with particular emphasis placed upon the founding documents and the Constitutional Convention. In order to trace the development of political thought over time, students will study and present key Supreme Court Cases, examine the changing roles of Congress and the Executive branch, and analyze the effects of interest groups and lobbyist upon our political system. Students will be expected to write essays, case summaries, current event analysis, and participate in a civic engagement project.

CHS American Government and Politics

Students will be evaluated according the rubrics and standards of the AP U.S. Government and Politics course.

Prerequisites: Student must have earned in A in Emergence of Mass Democracy or maintained a B or higher in CHS Emergence of Mass Democracy and have a teacher recommendation.

Macroeconomics La Roche College AMG 1005
Students study basic economic concepts that include, but are not limited to, supply and demand; Gross Domestic Product (GDP); national income analysis,  unemployment, inflation, macroeconomic theory, monetary policy and the Federal government, international trade and the role of the political process in economic life. This is a dual enrollment class in economics offered jointly by SJHS and La Roche College for three (3) undergraduate credits and a weighted SJHS grade. This class conforms to Advanced Placement guidelines.
