My Classes

Latin I

This level of instruction includes an introduction to the skills necessary for basic translations from Latin to English and English to Latin. The annual Latin Mass is our form of communication of ideas. In this beginning stage students can communicate with memorized phrases and words.

Latin II

This course of instruction is offered after successful completion of Level I competencies. In this next stage students develop the skills necessary for communication in more complex and involved levels of Latin syntax. As they develop these skills they respond to Latin authors of more complicated translations.

Latin III

This expanding stage of the Latin courses is offered after the successful accumulation of skills from level II. In this section students work on the sophisticated skills necessary for understanding the “elite” Latin authors of Rome’s “Golden Age”. They also hone their skills in preparation for their senior year Virgil’s “Aeneid”. Our goal is that each student develops the skills needed to make the choice to take that course.

Latin IV

This ultimate stage of our Latin program is for three college credits through the University of Pittsburgh. Students need all of their accumulated knowledge from their past three years to handle this level of the ancient Roman language–Virgil’s “Aeneid”. This classic of Roman literature is one of the most important and copied pieces of Roman thought throughout the Middle Ages. Students follow the syllabus from the Classics Department of the University of Pittsburgh for this course.
